In 1927 Edwin Perkins developed a method of removing the liquid from his concentrated drink mix, Fruit Smack, so that the remaining powder mix could be packaged and sold in envelopes, thus greatly reducing shipping and handling costs. Kool-Aid, as it became known, is still a popular product today.
